Five years after being drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Penguins and three years after being traded to the Minnesota Wild, defenseman Calen Addison's next stop is in San Jose, California.

The Wild confirmed Wednesday that it is trading Addison to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick.

Addison, 23, had just 11 minutes, 34 seconds of ice time playing with Daemon Hunt as Minnesota's third defensive pairing Tuesday night against the Islanders. In 12 games this season Addison has zero goals, five assists and a net rating of -3.

Addison being dealt is possibly an indication that Jared Spurgeon will return to the Wild for the first time this season. He was believed to be on the verge of making his season debut after suffering an upper-body injury in Minnesota's Oct. 5 preseason game against Chicago, and his presence in the lineup would bolster a defensive unit that has struggled in the first 12 games of the season.
