Wild come from behind to beat Flames in shootout
Mats Zuccarello and Matt Boldy scored in a shootout and Filip Gustavsson denied three Calgary Flames attempts as the Wild came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center.
Marco Rossi scored on a rebound to tie the game at 2-2 in the third period, eventually sending the game to overtime where neither team could break the tie.
Boldy scored for the Wild (11-12-4) unassisted at 4:42 in the first period for the game’s opening goal. The Wild held that lead until Elias Lindholm found Yegor Sharangovich on the power play at 13:18 in the second to knot the game for the Flames (11-14-5).
Blake Coleman gave Calgary its first lead less than 10 minutes later, knocking the puck off Brock Faber’s skate at 4:13 in the second frame.
Playing without top two defensemen in Jared Spurgeon and Jonas Brodin, Faber had a career-high 30 minutes, 8 seconds of ice time.
Gustavsson recorded 37 saves in the Minnesota victory.
The Wild improved to 6-2 under new coach John Hynes.
