Wild drafts Minnesota Mr. Hockey winner in 2nd round of NHL Draft
The Minnesota Wild used their local pipeline in the second round of the NHL Draft, selecting Grand Rapids defenseman Jack Peart with the 54th overall pick.
Peart won the Minnesota Mr. Hockey Award while starring for the Thunderhawks last season. The 18-year-old scored 11 goals and added 24 assists in 18 games and recorded 15 points (1 goal, 14 assists) in 15 games with the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League in 2021.
The St. Cloud State commit is more of a project coming out of high school but is a mobile defenseman that can move with the puck. According to NHL.com's Dan Myers, the Wild were thrilled to get Peart at the end of the second round and had him in the top 20 prospects on their draft board.
Peart joins goaltender Jasper Wallstedt (No. 20 overall) and defenseman Carson Lambos (No. 26) who were selected in the first round of the draft on Friday night. The Wild holds five more selections in the draft, which concludes on Saturday.
