Wild lose Saturday matinee to Hurricanes
The Minnesota Wild took another loss on Saturday afternoon as a slow start put them into an early hole against the Carolina Hurricanes. With two goals in the first period, the Wild were able to come back with three of their own in the second but ultimately couldn't find the game-winner as Carolina took home the win on an overtime goal by Andrei Svechnikov.
Saturday's loss was fueled by a rough first six minutes of the game where Devan Dubnyk allowed two goals to put the Wild down early. Joel Edmonson and Brock McGinn both put pucks in the net to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 advantage after the first period, but things settled down for the Wild to make a second-period comeback.
Luke Kunin scored his fourth goal of the season to put the Wild on the board in the second period, but that goal was erased by Warren Foegele to put Carolina ahead 3-1. But just like the Hurricanes took the lead with a quick flurry, the Wild came back with one of their own.
Zach Parise scored his sixth goal of the year on a shorthanded rush at 15:43 of the second period and 1:21 later, Carson Soucy scored his first career NHL goal to tie the game at 3-3.
The wild second period gave way to a quiet third that led both teams to overtime. In the 3-on-3 period, the Hurricanes used their deep lineup to pester Dubnyk and Svechnikov scored 1:33 into overtime to drop the Wild to 7-12-2 on the season.
Minnesota will hit the road next to face the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
