Wild prospect Danila Yurov breaks Vladimir Tarasenko's KHL record
Wild prospect Danila Yurov broke Vladimir Tarasenko’s KHL record for most points in a single season for a player under 21 years old, recording an assist on Thursday for his 48th point this season as his Metallurg team beat Amur 3-0.
Yurov has 21 goals and 27 assists for Metallurg this season and has a plus-minus of plus-21. Yurov is the No. 2 prospect in the Wild’s system, according to NHL.com.
Yurov, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft, participated in Wild development camp last summer and said his upcoming KHL season was a “very important” one. He said then that he hoped to come to North America next season to work with Wild coaches full time. He also said fellow Russian Kirill Kaprizov was “waiting for me to play here.”
By the looks of it, Kaprizov won’t have to wait too much longer.
Kaprizov, by the way, had 15 goals and 40 points in his age-20 season in the KHL.
Players 21 or younger who dominate in the Russian league tend to become really good players in the NHL. Artemi Panarin had 13 goals and 31 points at age 20 in the KHL while the likes of Pavel Buchnevich (37 points) and Evgeny Kuznetsov (44 points) are now stars in the NHL after impressive age-20 campaigns in Russia.
Yurov's success is ongoing while fellow Wild prospect, Marat Khusnutdinov, the No. 5 prospect in The Athletic's Wild rankings, is believed to be on his way to play for the Wild in March once his team's KHL season ends.
