Wild unveil new alternate jerseys
The Minnesota Wild unveiled their new alternate jerseys on Saturday and if you're a fan of the "Reverse Retro" jerseys, there's a good chance you'll be a fan of these.
The Wild's new jerseys, which will make their debut in an Oct. 21 game against Columbus, are entitled "The 78's" and pay homage to the Minnesota North Stars, who wore Kelly Green and yellow until they moved to Dallas in 1993.
While Minnesota can't use the North Stars logo, as the team took its rights with the move 20 years ago, these are the next best thing, using the old North Stars colors with the current Wild logo.
At first glance, it appears not as much changed from the "Reverse Retro" jerseys the Wild during the 2020-21 and 2022-23 seasons but there is a new captain's patch in the shape of Minnesota while adding "The State of Hockey" patch on the left shoulder.
"Our primary home and road jerseys are as popular as ever with our fans," Minnesota Wild Senior Brand Adviser John Maher said in a press release. "They also let us know last season that they still loved this legacy look so we decided to keep it in our mix as a new alternate jersey with some updated 'State of Hockey' details."
The Wild aren't the only team in the NHL to keep their "Reverse Retro" look in some form as the Calgary Flames announced they would keep their "Blasty" uniforms as an alternate this season and the Arizona Coyotes went to their "Kachina" uniforms full time in 2021.
Perhaps the change will lead the Wild to a full-scale rebrand with the green and gold colors in the future but for now, fans can be happy that the "Reverse Retro" look is sticking around for at least 15 games this season.
