Jim Harbaugh appears to call out Ohio State again with 'third base' remarks

Not everybody was born on third base, ex-Michigan coach says about Ohio State

Jim Harbaugh may be gone from the Michigan sideline, but the former UM player and Wolverines head coach never misses an opportunity to take a stab at Ohio State whenever he can.

That included another reminder about who was and wasn't "born on third base," as Harbaugh spoke of the staff he put together with the Los Angeles Chargers.

"Everybody in that building, no one was born on third base," Harbaugh said, via SI's Albert Breer. "Everyone had to work their way to first."

While he didn't directly reference Ohio State, his comments do bring to mind some infamous words he had for Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day, who Harbaugh inferred in 2021 was "standing on third base [and] think they hit a triple" after taking over for Urban Meyer.

Harbaugh didn't just win a war of words against Day: he left Michigan with a winning record against the coach, prevailing in the 2021 and 2022 versions of The Game. UM also won last year's game, but Sherrone Moore was the coach on the sideline during Harbaugh's suspension.

Michigan used those games as a launching pad to three straight Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances, winning the national championship in 2023.
