What Alabama has gained and lost in the transfer portal after the retirement of Nick Saban and replacement by Kalen DeBoer

No single decision may affect the course of college football, at least on the field, over the next several years than the retirement of Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The NCAA-record seven-time national champion's departure from the sideline leaves a giant vacuum that Kalen DeBoer will seek to fill going forward.

And with talent acquisition now including an over-active transfer portal in addition to the annual recruiting bonanza, DeBoer and his staff have some serious work to do replacing some critical outgoing talent in the near future.

LT Overton: 4-star DL transferred from Texas A&M to Alabama

What Alabama lost in 2024

Caleb Downs: A former five-star prospect in the secondary, ranked as the No. 1 safety and overall transfer player in 2024, moves on to Ohio State.

Kadyn Proctor: Another five-star and the No. 1 ranked transfer offensive tackle and No. 2 overall transfer heads back to Iowa, his native state.

Julian Sayin: Ranked as the No. 1 transfer quarterback and No. 6 overall transfer, the former five-star prospect heads to Ohio State in 2024.
