Keys to the game
1. Injury questions. Both teams are dealing with potential major injury concerns, with one team losing a contributor, and another possibly getting one back. Ole Miss right tackle Micah Pettis reportedly injured his foot in practice this week, while Georgia star tight end Brock Bowers could make his return to live action after an ankle injury back in October. Just having Bowers on the field helps open things up for the Bulldogs' other receiving targets. But missing Pettis could be costly for the Rebels as it opens up a line of attack for Georgia's edge rushers against a younger, inexperienced blocker.
2. Rebs' mobile QB. Jaxson Dart has been critical to Ole Miss' success the last two years, and this season has completed more than 66 percent of his pass attempts for 2,467 yards, throwing 16 touchdown passes and just four interceptions. But he's also a threat as a runner, amassing 334 yards and scoring seven additional times, and is a key complement to the Rebels' rushing ability. Georgia's front seven defense has to keep a close eye on Dart and ensure he doesn't have any escape routes to the outside.
3. Battle at the line. It's not exactly easy to run the ball against Georgia's defensive line, but it's relatively easier to do right now than it has been during its two-year title run. The Bulldogs are allowing almost 1 yard more per carry than they did a year ago, and allowed more than 200 on the ground to Missouri last week. That should be good news for Rebels back Quinshon Judkins. The sophomore has run for over 100 yards in each of the last three games and his ability to scratch out hard-earned yards will be crucial for Ole Miss to maintain possession and get into scoring position.
Ole Miss vs. Georgia prediction
Georgia has won two games against the spread this season, both against opponents that couldn't muster the kind of defense you need against the Bulldogs' skill threats. But the Rebels are playing that kind of D right now, and combined with their own athletes on the edge, they should be able to keep this close.
Ole Miss can generate a solid pass rush up front, and it ranks No. 1 in the SEC with a plus-8 turnover margin, but Georgia should maintain the clear advantage playing defense on third down, especially given the Rebels' newfound injury troubles, and the champs own the overall athletic advantage.
