ESPN cuts another college football analyst as network undergoes major layoffs
ESPN is letting another veteran college football analyst and storyteller go as the network continues its many layoffs, as Gene Wojciechowski has also been laid off.
"June 30 was my last day at ESPN," he said in a Twitter message.
"I'm indebted to every editor, producer, director, crew member, researcher, and colleague during that 25 1/2 year run. Grateful to all those who let us parachute into their lives and trust us with their stories. No Plan B yet. For now, just thanks."
Wojciechowski had been with the ESPN family of networks since 2005, working in many sports including college football, where he had the opportunity of sharing stories relating to players and events on the College GameDay program.
He added, "Appreciate those who have reached out. Very kind of everyone. For the record, ESPN did right by me during my entire career. No hard feelings. It was an honor to work there."
News of Wojo's release from ESPN follows that of David Pollack, another long-time college football analyst, and former player at Georgia, who was also among those personalities who won't return to the network in the future.
ESPN is making cuts
Disney, the company that owns ESPN, had planned to cut around 7,000 jobs from around the company overall and the sports network has been looking to get rid of mid-range personnel earning anywhere from $2 million to $5 million per year.
One person staying around is Chris Fowler, a voice of college football on ESPN who hosted the College GameDay show from 1990 to 2014 before moving into the broadcast booth as the network's main play-by-play announcer, including for the national championship, alongside color analyst Kirk Herbstreit.

ESPN initially looked to make cuts among those workers in the middle of the ranks but it was expected more cuts were to come involving some other behind the scenes people, and as we now know, many more famous personalities who appear on the air.
