Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders blasts Matt Rhule for 'disrespect' after Nebraska game

Colorado's quarterback, and the son of coach Deion Sanders, didn't care for what the Nebraska coach insinuated with his comments earlier this year

Deion Sanders isn't the only one bringing receipts as Colorado started the season 2-0 with a statement win at home against Nebraska. Now the coach's son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, is sticking up for his father with some pointed comments in the direction of Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule.

Sanders the younger said that Rhule gave the Buffaloes team a little extra motivation coming into the game thanks to some comments that appeared to be critical of how Prime was rebuilding the team and advertising the CU program nationally.

"The coach said a lot of things about my pops and about the program, but now, he wants to act nice," Sanders told reporters after the game.

"I don't respect that because you hated on another man. You shouldn't do that. It was just, all respect was gone for them and their program. I like playing against their defensive coordinator [Tony White], but the respect level ain't there because [Rhule] disrespected us first."

Those comments Sanders referred to that Rhule made didn't single out Colorado by name, but the coach did take some issue with teams relying so heavily on the transfer portal and building their name with "hype".

"I hear other schools [say] they can't wait for today, the transfer portal, they can't wait to go out. … I can't wait to coach my guys, let me tell you that," Rhule said this offseason. "I'm not thinking about anybody else but this team out here."

He added: "If you notice in our videos that we post, and I'm proud to post those, they're always of us working. They're never of us talking. [This] program is built on work. It's not built on hype."

Hype or no hype, Nebraska was on the wrong end of a 36-14 loss at Colorado thanks in part to some bad turnovers, which Sanders and the offense took advantage of.

Sanders finished with 393 yards passing and two touchdown passes, bringing his total to 903 yards in the air and a 78 percent completion rate.

Colorado is now 2-0 in the Prime era looking ahead to a home date with in-state rival Colorado State, with games at Oregon and against USC after that.
