Speculation continues to swirl around the expected release date of the long-anticipated return of the EA Sports College Football video game, and despite there being some rumors that a date has been set, the company is pushing the breaks.

Representatives from EA Sports told Matt Brown of Extra Points that they have "not shared a date with anybody" relating to the game after Gators Breakdown reported that EA planned to launch the game on July 12 of this year.

Despite the lack of a clear release date, it has been expected that the game would in all likelihood be on the shelves at some point in the summer of 2024.

EA Sports originally planned for OneTeam Partners to broker deals with players to include their name, image, and likeness in the planned game.

But The Brandr Group responded by filing suit this past summer to stop EA from doing deals with players and schools. Brandr settled with OneTeam Partners in November and ultimately dropped the suit against EA.

EA last issued its popular college football video game a decade ago, back in 2013, after which the company announced that it was discontinuing the game.

That decision followed a court ruling that forced EA Sports to pay compensation to athletes who had previously been included in the product but were not paid.

Then, after the creation of the new NIL rules two years ago, EA went public by announcing that the game would return at some point in the future.

But exactly when remains an open question.
