Georgia football sets NFL Draft record with 15 players taken in 2022
Georgia won the College Football Playoff national championship behind one of the sport's most dominant defenses and now the school has made NFL Draft history.
Months after winning its first national title since 1980, the program set a record for the most players taken in a single draft at 15.
That record mark included another record of its own, with five defensive players going in the first round, the most of any single team's defense in one season.
Georgia started the 2022 NFL Draft with the No. 1 selection as the Jacksonville Jaguars picked edge rusher Travon Walker. Bulldogs tight end John Fitzpatrick ended the school's run as the No. 213 overall pick to the Atlanta Falcons.
Star linebacker Nakobe Dean, long thought of as an obvious first-round selection, slipped to the third round with the Philadelphia Eagles. Even the Bulldogs' punter heard his name called: Jake Camarda went 133rd overall to Tampa Bay.
Georgia surpassed the former NFL Draft record held by Ohio State in 2004 and LSU in 2020, when both schools had 14 players selected.
Georgia also moved into a tie at No. 1 all-time with its fifth first overall NFL Draft pick, joining USC, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame at the top of the list.
