Heisman Trophy winner, full ballot for 2023 college football season
The 2023 schedule turns to Bowl Season and the College Football Playoff, but before then it's time to reveal the Heisman Trophy winner for this season. Four elite players were up for the award this year, three quarterbacks and one wide receiver, with one of the finalists set to appear in the national playoff semifinal. Who won the Heisman Trophy this season? Here's your look at the full vote, according to the Heisman Trust.
All-timers: College football teams with most Heisman Trophy winners
Winner: Jayden Daniels
LSU quarterback
Total points: 2,029 (503 1st place)
What he did: 236 of 327 (72.2%) for 3,812 yards, 40 TDs, 4 INTs, 1,134 rush yards, 10 rush TDs
Daniels has been a revelation for LSU since his transfer to the school, helping propel the Tigers to an SEC West championship in 2022 and finishing at or near the top in most offensive rankings in college football in the 2023 season, putting up historic numbers and emerging as a formidable dual-threat player.
2. Michael Penix, Jr.
Washington quarterback
Total points: 1,701 (292 1st place)
What he did: 307 of 484 (66.1%) for 4,470 yards, 35 TDs, 10 INTs, -18 rush yards, 3 rush TDs
Penix's arrival at Washington coincided with that of head coach Kalen DeBoer, and the two have combined to produce some of college football's best offense in that time. That partnership has culminated in the Huskies making their second College Football Playoff appearance after finishing as undefeated Pac-12 champions.
3. Bo Nix
Oregon quarterback
Total points: 885 (51 1st place)
What he did: 336 of 435 (77.2%) for 4,145 yards, 40 TDs, 3 INTs, 228 rush yards, 6 rush TDs
Another transfer, this one from Auburn, Nix finally realized his potential after joining the Ducks, whose offense was almost unstoppable this past season with him under center. The quarterback was 1st nationally in completion, 2nd in yards, 4th in yards per attempt, 1st in touchdowns, and 2nd in passer rating.
4. Marvin Harrison, Jr.
Ohio State wide receiver
Total points: 352 (20 1st place)
What he did: 67 receptions, 18.1 yards per catch, 1,211 yards, 14 TDs
Arguably no single player meant more to his offense than the Buckeyes receiver, whose highlight plays came when his team needed them most, eclipsing 100 yards receiving in eight appearances, and going over 20 yards per reception in six games, all while averaging just under 6 catches per game.
5. Jordan Travis
Florida State quarterback
Total points: 85 (8 1st place)
What he did: 207 of 324 (63.9%) for 2,756 yards, 20 TDs, 2 INTs, 176 rush yards, 7 rush TDs
Prior to his season-ending injury late in the year, Travis was playing at an elite level for the Seminoles, keeping his team in playoff contention and himself in the Heisman race. But that injury had a huge impact not just for FSU, but for the quarterback. Just like his team, Travis finishes at No. 5 in this poll.
6. Jalen Milroe
Alabama quarterback
Total points: 73 (4 1st place)
What he did: 171 of 261 (65.5%) for 2,718 yards, 23 TDs, 6 INTs, 468 rush yards, 12 rush TDs
At the beginning of the season, Milroe didn't look like the answer for the Crimson Tide, especially after the Texas loss. But after getting passed over in the USF game, Alabama turned back to their starter, who repaid his team with some superb output as a dual-threat fixture whose mobility and improved accuracy helped propel the Tide to an SEC title over Georgia and a berth in the playoff.
7. Ollie Gordon
Oklahoma State running back
Total points: 31 (1 1st place)
What he did: 258 rush, 1,614 yards, 6.3 ypc, 20 TDs, 37 rec, 326 yards, 1 TD
After the Cowboys started the 2023 season slow, they turned to Gordon, who emerged as a breakout star, finishing as the first OSU back to win the Doak Walker Award after leading college football in total rushing yards and placing second in touchdowns scored.
8. Cody Schrader
Missouri running back
Total points: 29 (1 1st place)
What he did: 247 rush, 1,489 yards, 6.0 ypc, 13 TDs, 22 rec, 191 yards
A former walk-on for Missouri, the tailback went on to win the Burlsworth Award in that same capacity after a breakout campaign in which he helped push the Tigers to a 10-win season and finished No. 1 nationally among backs by averaging 124.9 rushing yards per game.
9. Blake Corum
Michigan running back
Total points: 28 (3 1st place)
What he did: 218 rush, 1,028 yards, 4.7 ypc, 24 TDs, 14 rec, 82 yards
Corum could have packed it in and declared for the NFL Draft last year, especially after his late-season injury, but he returned to school for another shot at glory, and so far the results have been worth the effort: he's No. 1 nationally with 24 rushing touchdowns, setting a Michigan record in that time, and is going back to the playoff.
10. J.J. McCarthy
Michigan quarterback
Total points: 21 (1 1st place)
What he did: 213 of 315 (74%) for 2,844 yards, 21 TDs, 5 INT, 57 rush, 146 yards, 3 TDs
Earlier this season, it looked as though McCarthy was a sure thing to finish in the top-four and earn an invite to New York, but even though other players pushed ahead, the Wolverines quarterback still finished in the top-10 of voting.
