Jayden Daniels injury: Update on LSU star for Florida game
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to start Saturday's game against Florida after recovering from an injury sustained a week ago, according to a report from ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.
Daniels was originally listed as probable for the game after suffering a head injury in the second half of LSU's loss at Alabama last weekend.
The quarterback was injured on a play in the second half of that contest following a hit from Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner and retired to the medical tent on the team's sideline for further medical evaluation.
He was unable to return to the game, and backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier finished the game in reserve.
Officials reviewed the original hit for targeting, but instead only assessed a roughing the passer penalty. Daniels briefly attempted a return, but went back to the tent.
LSU head coach Brian Kelly told Paul Finebaum that he sent a video of the hit to the SEC headquarters of the belief that Turner's hit should have been called targeting.
Later in the week, Kelly told reporters that the SEC responded by telling him the collision "did not meet the standards of targeting."
In his second year since transferring from Arizona State, Daniels leads the SEC in passing this season, amassing 2,792 yards in the air while throwing 27 touchdown passes and just four interceptions.
He has also rushed for 684 yards and six touchdowns, and was responsible for three all-purpose touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, against Alabama before his injury.
LSU, ranked No. 19 in the College Football Playoff rankings this week, is a 14.5 point favorite against unranked Florida, according to SI Sportsbook.
