Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh meeting with NFL team about vacancy: reports
Once again, another offseason begins with rumors that Jim Harbaugh is looking to leave the Michigan football program for the NFL and that speculation has picked up again as Harbaugh is in Los Angeles at the start of the week to meet with the Chargers about their head coaching vacancy, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
While the two sides will meet in person about the position, it is not expected that either side will come to a decision now or in the immediate future, as both sides want to perform due diligence on all their available options first.
This isn't the first time that Harbaugh has been connected to the Chargers, with a source inside the NFL who works as a coach saying that the L.A.-based team has been interested in Harbaugh for some time, and that the feeling from him was mutual.
But the Chargers are unlikely to be the only NFL team interested in looking at and speaking with Harbaugh, as their AFC West rival Las Vegas Raiders are also rumored to be in the market for the Michigan coach who just won the national championship.
Rumors around Harbaugh's coaching future heated up further late in the season after it was rumored that the Michigan coach hired agent Don Yee, a veteran rep with deep NFL ties, combined with Harbaugh not yet signing a new deal with the Wolverines amid some long-term offers from the school.
Harbaugh went 44-19-1 as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, playing in three straight NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl. He also earned credibility as a coach by helping turnaround Stanford and then Michigan.
