Jimbo Fisher fired: How much Texas A&M owes him now
After almost six seasons, the Jimbo Fisher era has come to an end as Texas A&M has informed the head coach that he has been fired. University regents met in an executive session on Thursday and another meeting was scheduled for Sunday to make it formal.
Fisher was 45-25 at Texas A&M, but since the 9-1 campaign during the Covid-19 season in 2020, the Aggies are just 19-15 and have lost 10 of their last 15 games against Power Five opposition.
What does A&M owe Fisher now? Quite a lot as it turns out. Here's what you need to know.
Jimbo Fisher contract details
How long is it? 10 years
How much is it? $94.95 million, and every dollar of it is guaranteed
A&M originally lured Fisher away from Florida State, where we won a national championship, signing the coach to the 10-year contract which, at the time, was worth $75 million.
After a solid-enough start, which included nearly making the College Football Playoff during the Covid-19 season, the school gave him a raise: a fully-guaranteed contract extension worth the $94.95 million figure.
In total, that keeps Fisher with the school through the 2031 season.
Unless it's willing to pay him to leave.
