Former LSU football player Kayshon Boutte charged in gambling scheme: What we know
Former LSU football player Kayshon Boutte was issued an arrest warrant in an investigation into illegal online gambling, the Louisiana State Police said in a statement on Thursday.
Boutte turned himself in on charges of computer fraud and gaming prohibited for persons under 21. He posted a $6,000 bond and was released. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
Police allege that Boutte used an alias to get around the legal age that is required to place bets in Louisiana when he was 20 years old, claiming that he was 21 and thus legally allowed to place wagers.
Boutte is alleged to have placed 8,900 illegal wagers while underage, including on 17 college football games, and at least six bets on LSU football games, including when he was a member of the football team in 2022.
But a local report revealed that Boutte did not bet against himself, meaning he was not accused of throwing any games, according to WAFB.
"In July 2023, LSU was made aware of allegations regarding a former student-athlete's improper conduct related to sports gambling while enrolled at the University, "LSU said in a statement.
"Since then, we have fully cooperated with all relevant authorities involved in the investigation and will continue to do so. We have no evidence that any other student-athletes participated in these prohibited activities, and we ate grateful for measures that detect and discourage sports gambling related misconduct."
