Former LSU football star, current NFL player Foster Moreau reveals cancer diagnosis
Former LSU football player and NFL tight end Foster Moreau has announced he has cancer and is stepping away from football.
Moreau revealed he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma after a routine physical with the New Orleans Saints.
"Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me," Moreau said in a statement.
"During a routine physical conducted by the New Orleans Saints medical team down in New Orleans, I've come to learn that I have Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer."
Moreau added, "I'm grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn't been a single step I've taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance.
"That being said, I'll go kick this thing's ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!"
In four seasons at LSU, the product of New Orleans (Jesuit) played in 30 games, finishing as one of the school's most productive tight ends.
Moreau caught 52 passes for 629 total yards and scored six touchdowns at LSU.
His best outing came in 2017 when as a junior he had 24 catches for 278 yards and three touchdown receptions.
Moreau landed with the Raiders as the No. 137 overall selection in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
The tight end was coming off a career campaign with 420 receiving yards.
