LSU officially announces QB Jayden Daniels transfer

It's official: Jayden Daniels is at LSU

Not long after a bombshell report that quarterback Jayden Daniels would transfer to LSU, that school made the move official.

LSU football coach Brian Kelly confirmed that the former Arizona State quarterback will suit up for the Tigers for the 2022 season.

Brian Kelly welcomes Jayden Daniels to LSU

"Jayden is an outstanding player who will make our quarterback room even stronger," Kelly said in a statement.

"He's a playmaker with a strong arm and the ability to make plays with his feet. We are excited to welcome Jayden to our program as we continue to build a roster of student-athletes who will compete for championships on the field and work just as hard in the classroom to earn their degree."

Jayden Daniels at Arizona State

Daniels was the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Arizona State in that program's history. He passed for 2,943 yards in his first season, scoring 17 touchdowns in the air and throwing two interceptions.

A gifted athlete, Daniels also rushed for 355 yards and three more scores as the Sun Devils went 8-5 and beat Florida State in the Sun Bowl.

Last season, Daniels passed for 10 touchdowns while covering 2,380 yards in the air. He rushed for 710 yards and six scores last fall for another 8-5 team.

What LSU has at quarterback

Jayden Daniels joins a crowded quarterback room at LSU this offseason. He'll be the fourth option the Tigers have on the rotation going into spring football.

Myles Brennan came into the 2022 offseason as the presumptive favorite to earn the starting job. He previously entered his name into the transfer portal, but Brian Kelly and his staff convinced the Mississippi native to re-consider, and he decided to stay.

Brennan was poised to take the starting job in 2021, but suffered an injury away from the field, allowing Max Johnson to take the reins, instead. Brennan passed for 1,112 yards with 11 TDs and three picks in just three games in the 2020 season.

Redshirt freshman Garrett Nussmeier is also on campus, and five-star 2022 recruit Walker Howard is set to join the LSU program soon, as well.
