Michigan football asst Greg Scruggs resigns after arrest
Michigan football defensive line coach Greg Scruggs has resigned from the Wolverines program, according to a statement from head coach Sherrone Moore.
Scruggs was arrested on March 16 for driving while intoxicated in Ann Arbor.
"I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately," Moore said. 'I am unable to comment further as this is a University matter."
Police stopped Scruggs around 2:15 a.m. that morning at an intersection with his hazard lights on.
He went through a field sobriety test and later had two breath tests, registering a blood-alcohol level of .16 and .17.
Moore confirmed Scruggs' arrest a few hours after the news became public, noting that the 33-year-old assistant had made an unfortunate mistake.
Scruggs was also arrested when he was a senior on the Louisville football team in 2011 when he left the roadway driving and ran over a light pole, per reports.
He was dismissed from the team prior to its bowl game against NC State.
Prior to joining Michigan, Scruggs coached at Wisconsin over the 2023 season and was with the New York Jets the year before.
Now, Michigan turns to the coaching carousel to find a replacement for its defensive line coach.
