Nebraska Football Star Anthony Grant Suspended for Start of Spring Football
Nebraska football star Anthony Grant is suspended for the start of the team's spring football practice, the school announced.
Grant led the Cornhuskers in rushing a year ago but is dealing with off-the-field issues coming into this season, new coach Matt Rhule said.
Rhule noted that Grant must make marked improvements in his academic career among other areas before he is allowed to return to the team.
It is expected that Grant will return to the Cornhuskers team at some point.
The native of Buford, Ga., began his college football career as a junior college transfer initially playing at Florida State.
Grant led Nebraska with 218 rushing attempts, adding 915 yards on the ground, and compiling six rushing touchdowns last season.
He finished with the most carries for a Cornhuskers player in almost a decade and was named All-Big Ten honorable mention.
Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule also announced that wide receiver Tommi Hill is not practicing as he deals with off-field issues.
He led the Cornhuskers with 221 kick return yards and 12 return attempts while adding 17 tackles on defense.
Defensive back Tyreke Johnson and tight ends James Carnie and Chris Hickman are no longer with the football program, Rhule said.
