Nebraska football: Bo Pelini is still mad about the 2009 Big 12 championship game
It's been more than a decade, but Bo Pelini is still enraged at the Big 12 for how it officiated the 2009 championship game between Nebraska and Texas.
Pelini was then Cornhuskers head coach when his team appeared to have the conference title all sown up.
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy rolled out with under five seconds left before throwing the ball out of bounds. The whistle blew, but officials put one second on the clock.
Texas kicked a 46 yard field goal to beat Nebraska, 13-12.
"They f-cking lied. That was a screw job," Pelini said on Pardon My Take.
"They wanted Texas to go to the National Championship game," he said. "Let's face it. They wanted to make sure that a team from the Big 12 went.
"We won the game. The game was over."
Pelini went 29-12 with Nebraska in three years when the Cornhuskers were in the Big 12 and finished with a 67-27 overall mark with the school through the 2014 season.
Nebraska made two other appearances in the Big 12 title game under Pelini, both losses, and the question will always remain with Husker fans: What could have been for the coach and the team in the years since had that second not been put back on the clock?
