New details on accident involving Ohio State football coach Brian Hartline
There are new details emerging from the UTV accident that landed Ohio State football offensive coordinator Brian Hartline in the hospital in recent days.
Hartline was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital after the accident to receive treatment, but has since been released from the hospital and is resting at home.
Now, according to the Delaware Co. (Ohio) Sheriff's Department, we have new information surrounding the crash, including an admission from Hartline that he had been drinking prior to the crash.
Hartline, who was driving the UTV that crashed, was laying on the ground when deputies arrived at the scene of the accident.
Another man who was there, told law enforcement that he was partially ejected from the vehicle but did not know if Hartline was also thrown, as well.
Hartline's sister placed the 911 call and was asked by the dispatcher if the coach and his friend had been drinking. She replied, "Yes, they have."
The sheriff's report then noted that Hartline's hospital room had "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage."
"I appreciate everyone's support," Hartline said initially in a tweet following the accident. "I crashed my side by side on my property and have been taken to the hospital for further evaluation. I am doing well."
Hartline came to prominence as Ohio State's wide receivers coach and especially as one of the football program's most high-profile recruiters.
Hartline helped develop wide receiver talent including Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison, Jr., among others.
He also took the passing game coordinator position in 2022.
A native of Canton, Hartline played wide receiver for Ohio State under head coach Jim Tressel before moving onto the National Football League, playing for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns.
