Son of legendary Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes has died
Judge Steve Hayes, the son of former Ohio State football coach Woody Hayes, has died at the age of 76.
Hayes earned an undergraduate degree in law and international studies at OSU while his father coached the Buckeyes football team.
From there, he sat on the bench as a Franklin County Municipal Court Judge for 25 years.
"We are grateful for his support for two outstanding academic programs," Ohio State president Kristina Johnson said in a statement.
"Judge Hayes established the Anne Hayes Memorial Scholarship for Academic Excellence in our College of Social Work.
"The Hayes family and friends endowed The Wayne Woodrow Hayes Chair in National Security Studies at Ohio State’s Mershon Center for International Security Studies.
"Judge Hayes was inspired by his parents’ belief in 'paying forward' in his career, his service to the community and his dedication to Ohio State. We offer condolences to his family."
Woody Hayes served as Ohio State football coach from 1951 to 1978, finishing with a 205–61–10 record, winning five national championships and 13 Big Ten titles, retiring as one of the most decorated coaches in college football history.
