Oklahoma football: Sooners reveal Baker Mayfield statue that looks nothing like Baker Mayfield

Over the years, the Oklahoma football program has produced its fair share of legendary players and Heisman Trophy winners. Baker Mayfield fits the bill on both counts, and the former OU quarterback saw himself honored by the school recently.

Mayfield, who won the Heisman Trophy in the 2017 season, was on hand as Oklahoma unveiled his statue in the school's Heisman Park.

But most of the talk surrounding the occasion wasn't focused so much on Mayfield as it was on the resemblance, or lack thereof, between the statue and its subject.

It didn't take long for the internet to chime in with its thoughts about the statue.

Mayfield became the sixth Heisman Trophy winner in Oklahoma football history following a legendary 2017 campaign. He completed 70.5 percent of his passes that year for 4,627 yards with 43 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Over three years at Oklahoma, Mayfield totaled 12,292 passing yards, 893 rushing yards, and 138 total touchdowns.

“I’m a Sooner for life and incredibly grateful for all of the success my teammates and I had at OU,” Mayfield said.

“It’s humbling and surreal to think about having a statue in iconic Heisman Park. I can’t wait to be back in Norman and reunite with the most passionate fans in college football.”
