Ole Miss football: Rebels hire Alabama wide receiver to coaching staff
Ole Miss football is about to add a former Alabama player to its coaching staff. Kevin Norwood is joining the Rebels staff for the 2022 season, according to On3 Sports.
Norwood played wide receiver for the Crimson Tide from 2010 through 2013, finishing with 81 career catches for 1,275 yards and 12 touchdowns.
He was part of a Tide team that won two BCS national championships and a pair of SEC titles, with his breakout game coming against LSU in the 2012 national title game, catching a team-best four passes for 78 yards.
Norwood was a fourth-round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Playing just 10 games in his NFL career, nine were as a rookie, catching nine balls for 102 yards.
Norwood played one game with the Carolina Panthers in the 2015 season, the year that organization played in Super Bowl 50, but he was inactive for the game. Carolina placed him on injured reserve in September 2016 and released him soon after.
In October 2016, the San Diego Chargers signed Norwood, but released him a month later. He signed with the New York Giants' practice squad shortly thereafter, and signed a futures contract with the club. But in August 2017, he was placed on injured reserve with a hip ailment.
New York released Norwood on an injury settlement in November 2017.
From there, Norwood embarked on a career as a coach, working with Billy Napier at Louisiana as an offensive quality control assistant. In that capacity, Norwood developed the Ragin Cajuns' wide receivers and running backs.
