SEC announces reprimand for Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher amid coaches' feud
The SEC has stepped in amid the feud between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher, announcing a reprimand for both coaches over ethical conduct violations.
"The membership of the Southeastern Conference has established expectations for conduct and sportsmanship that were not met last night nor today," Sankey said.
"A hallmark of the SEC is intense competition within an environment of collaboration. Public criticism of any kind does not resolve issues and creates a distraction from seeking solutions for the issues facing college athletics today."
So, is anyone getting punished? No, not really. The reprimand is just the SEC's way of stepping in and showing its authority by registering public disapproval with its members' actions.
The SEC's response comes after an intense night and day of back and forth comments between the Alabama and Texas A&M head football coaches.
It all started when Saban said in public remarks that A&M "bought every player on their team" during the team's historic 2022 recruiting efforts, while claiming that Alabama players only made money through NIL deals "the right way."
Fisher responded the next day in an emotional rant, calling Saban a "narcissist" and claiming that "some people think they're God," while hinting that the Alabama coach has not always operated ethically during his Hall of Fame career.
"We're done," Fisher said of his relationship with Saban, who in turn apologized in part for his remarks on Thursday.
"I should have never really singled anybody out," Saban said on College Sports on Sirius XM. "That was a mistake and I really apologize for that part of it."
