Tez Walker injury: Update on North Carolina WR after blindside hit
North Carolina Tar Heels wide receiver Tez Walker was released from the hospital after being admitted for evaluation following a brutal hit in Saturday's game against Georgia Tech, the school announced in a statement.
Carolina said that Walker is "doing better" and "has been released from the hospital," and will fly back to Chapel Hill on Sunday.
Walker was taken to an Atlanta-area hospital after a brutal blindside hit in the fourth quarter of the Tar Heels' loss to the Yellow Jackets.
Walker made a first-down catch as Carolina was looking to make a comeback late in the game, but was struck hard by a Tech defender he didn't see coming and fumbled the ball.
He remained on the ground for several minutes, and, though was able to eventually walk off the field with the aid of some medical trainers, he appeared unsteady as he approached the team's sideline.
UNC head football coach Mack Brown said that Walker was aware and speaking but didn't provide a medical update, and that the receiver was taken to the hospital.
The loss was the second-straight for North Carolina, which started 6-0 on the season and appeared to be in line to challenge favorite Florida State for the ACC championship, but defeats against unranked Virginia and now Georgia Tech dropped the team to 6-2 overall and fourth place in the conference standings.
Tech ran for almost 250 yards and scored 22 points in the fourth quarter alone.
"We played awful defense in the fourth quarter," Brown said. "Just awful."
Carolina hosts Campbell next weekend and Duke the week after that before closing with two road games, at Clemson and at NC State.
