College Football's No. 1 Overall Prospect Locks In Two Major Game Day Visits

The best high school football player in the country is hitting the road when the college football season starts, with two marquee programs getting a shot to make a good impression.

The best football player in the country coming out of high school finds himself the subject of one of the most consequential recruitments in college football, and now he’s set to hit the road and see some marquee programs up close.

Brysen Wright, considered the best prospect in the 2028 class and a near-consensus five-star recruit, will be in person when a pair of SEC programs play some high profile games this season.

Where is Brysen headed?

The month of September could prove consequential as Wright hits the road in SEC country, first visiting Texas on Sept. 12 and then Florida on Sept. 26, according to Rivals recruiting analyst Chad Simmons.

Both games will feature prominently for those schools, as the Longhorns look to avenge last year’s loss against Ohio State on that day, and the Gators likewise against the Rebels, and courting the top 2028 recruit will make those dates even more important.

Two-team SEC race for Wright?

Texas has taken a strong early position for the wide receiver, frequently cited by insiders as one of a few leading contenders, and hosted him on campus in Austin officially in April following the school’s initial scholarship offer last May.

Wright received an offer from in-state Florida as early as his eighth grade season back in 2024 and attended a home game in Gainesville that season before making his first unofficial visit to the campus in early June of this year.

Gators coach Jon Sumrall gave Wright the impression that he was the No. 1 priority for the program in the 2028 cycle, and as part of that effort, the school has worked feverishly to build a solid relationship between its coaches and the prospect to keep the Florida native closer to home.

Wright has been at or near the top of most recruiting prospect rankings ever since analysts started looking at the 2028 high school class.

When taking an average of the national recruiting services, Wright is currently listed as the No. 1 wide receiver and top ranked overall prospect in the country.

247Sports analysts have ranked Wright as the best wide receiver coming out of high school, while ESPN and Rivals experts gave him the five-star designation.

Productive on the field

Starting over the last two years at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Fla., Wright has emerged as a consistent contributor in his team’s offense.

Over nearly two dozen appearances, Wright has caught 77 passes while covering 1,629 yards and averaging more than 21 yards per reception with 18 touchdown catches, according to MaxPreps.

Wright is coming off his best effort last season as a sophomore, catching 46 balls for 983 yards and scoring 10 times in 12 games.
