Georgia’s Elite 5-Star Prospect Ranked No. 1 Among Committed QBs in 2028 Recruiting Class

The Dawgs have the top quarterback currently committed in the 2028 cycle, but can they keep him in the fold?

As the new college football season gets set to officially kick off in a couple of weeks, programs around the country are also fighting hard to fill out the rest of their respective 2027 recruiting classes.

As with every cycle, the nation's top teams are duking it out to earn commitments from the best soon-to-be high school seniors, but they are also trying to get an early leg up on the top high school juniors and sophomores as well.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are no strangers to landing top talent year in and year out, and while the Dawgs are putting together another elite class in 2027, they have also gotten a great head start on 2028.

According to Rivals, Georgia currently has the No. 1 five-star quarterback committed in the 2028 cycle in California native and IMG Academy product Jayden Ware.

Ware, who has been committed to the Dawgs since last November, is currently ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class and the No. 5 recruit overall, per the Rivals composite rankings.

Originally hailing from Los Angeles, Ware made the move to Florida powerhouse IMG Academy in 2025, where he threw for 1,376 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just 1 interception, while rushing for a further 254 yards and 3 scores on the ground.

Now entering his junior campaign as a high schooler, Ware possesses all of the tools to become an elite quarterback at the collegiate level and is exactly the kind of QB prospect that Georgia has been unable to keep in the fold during Smart's tenure.

Can the Dawgs Finally Keep an Elite QB Prospect?

For all of Georgia's success over the past decade, both on the field and on the recruiting trail, the one area where they have consistently fallen short under Smart's leadership is in landing and keeping elite quarterbacks.

Yes, they won back-to-back national championships with a former walk-on under center, but the fact remains that the Dawgs' shortcomings when it comes to recruiting the type of game-changing signal-callers at the same level they recruit seemingly every other position are very real.

Just about every UGA fan remembers the Justin Fields debacle, and the last-second flips of five-star Dylan Raiola in 2024 and Jared Curtis in 2026 are other glaring examples of the Dawgs' failures in this key area.

Now, Smart and the rest of his staff have another opportunity to land what many consider to be the best high school junior in the nation, and a guy who could become the transcendent talent under center that everybody in Athens has been waiting for.

Will Georgia be able to keep Ware in the fold until signing day and beyond, or will this be yet another disappointing flip for Smart on the trail? Only time will tell.
