Details emerge after ex-Texas star T'Vondre Sweat arrested
Former Texas Longhorns football star T'Vondre Sweat was arrested in Austin over the weekend on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and now we're starting to get some details of what exactly happened.
Police officers in Austin responded to a crash on Interstate 35 at approximately 4:41 a.m. on Sunday morning, and upon arriving on the scene, found Sweat, who was driving an SUV.
Police said Sweat's SUV and a sedan were involved in the crash, but the driver of the other car allegedly fled the scene on foot.
Sweat was arrested for DWI and ultimately released from jail after posting a $3,000 bond.
In the state of Texas, a Class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both.
The interior defensive lineman was a unanimous first-team All-America selection after last season and was instrumental in Texas posting the No. 3 run defense in college football.
Helping lead the Longhorns to a Big 12 title and their first College Football Playoff appearance, Sweat recorded 127 total stops and five sacks during his collegiate career.
Sweat ran the 40-yard dash in 5.27 seconds during the NFL Scouting Combine, where he also recorded a 26-inch vertical jump, and while draft analysts originally marked him as a potential early Day 2 pick, this incident may push him down some draft boards.
