Amazing video shows Chris Smelley rescued at sea
Former SEC football player Chris Smelley was recently rescued while at sea after having been reported missing, and now the U.S. Coast Guard has released some amazing video footage of the man being saved.
The former South Carolina quarterback and Alabama baseball player went missing while on his kayak off the coast of Florida, but thankfully he was found by the Coast Guard and rescued, with video of the remarkable event becoming public.
Thankfully, what could have been a real tragedy was avoided after Smelley was rescued from what a potentially life-threatening situation.
It's unclear exactly what events led to Smelley being declared missing, or any other details related to the case. Authorities said that Smelley did not require any medical attention and showed no signs of distress upon being discovered.
He signed with South Carolina to play football, serving as Gamecocks quarterback under head coach Steve Spurrier from 2006 to 2008, going 9-6 in 15 career starts.
Smelley passed for 3,210 yards with 23 touchdowns and 22 interceptions at South Carolina.
