The Rise of YouTube TV and NFL Sunday Ticket

In a bold move last December, the Google-owned live streaming service, YouTube TV, secured the rights to NFL Sunday Ticket, nudging out strong contenders like Amazon and ESPN. This monumental shift brings an end to the long-standing tradition of DirecTV broadcasting the out-of-market regular-season NFL games since its inception in 1994.

A Look at the Numbers

For the avid NFL follower, YouTube TV is offering a discounted package starting at $299 for its subscribers, compared to $399 for non-subscribers. This offer is $50 off the regular season price. For those who want to elevate their viewing experience, the NFL RedZone channel can be added for an additional $40.

Recognizing the need for flexible payment options, YouTube is rolling out four monthly payment plans:

  • NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV: Four payments of $74.75, totaling $299.
  • NFL Sunday Ticket + NFL RedZone on YouTube TV: Four payments of $84.75, totaling $339.
  • NFL Sunday Ticket on Primetime Channels: Four payments of $99.75, totaling $399.
  • NFL Sunday Ticket + NFL RedZone on Primetime Channels: Four payments of $109.75, totaling $439.

In essence, subscribers can begin watching by only paying the first installment today and continue with three equal payments over the next three months. However, it's important to note that monthly payment options are not available in seven states: Georgia, New York, Minnesota, Nevada, Missouri, Tennessee, and New Jersey.

A Special Mention: Student Discounts

Courtney Lessard, the group product manager for NFL Sunday Ticket and YouTube Primetime Channels, disclosed in a recent blog post that students can look forward to a discounted subscription option that's launching soon.

Exciting New Features Await

Here's what subscribers can expect from YouTube's NFL Sunday Ticket:

  • Multiview Option: Say goodbye to switching between tabs or channels. Viewers can now simultaneously watch up to four NFL games or indulge in the NFL RedZone.
  • Interactive Live Chat and Polls: Engage in live chats, participate in polls, and enjoy seamless NFL Shop integrations while watching games.
  • Key Plays: Before diving into a live game, viewers can catch up with significant game moments through YouTube's award-winning Key Plays feature.
  • NFL Shorts: Real-time highlights available on mobile devices, allowing users to switch to live games seamlessly.

In terms of device compatibility, NFL Sunday Ticket can be streamed on an unlimited number of devices at home. However, when on the move, viewers are restricted to a maximum of two separate streams.

In a nutshell, the enhancements to NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube promise a richer, more interactive, and more flexible viewing experience for fans. The new season awaits, and it seems YouTube is more than ready to deliver a touchdown experience.
