Benches Clear in Brewers-Mets Game After Risky Slide into Second
There were some Opening Day fireworks in Queens on Friday as benches cleared in the game between the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers.
After being postponed because of weather on Thursday, the two National League rivals clearly had some pent up energy that came out in the top of the eighth inning.
With one out in the top of the eighth, Willy Adames hit a ground ball to third. Bret Baty of the Mets threw the ball to second base, where Jeff McNeil received the throw. As he was making the transfer out of his glove, he was slid into by Brewers' runner Rhys Hoskins.
McNeil took exception to the slide and the benches cleared with Hoskins making a "crying" motion at McNeil, who proceeded to scream across the field at Hoskins.

Benches clear in the Mets-Brewers game after Jeff McNeil got upset at Rhys Hoskins’ slide into second
As the Mets broadcast team noted, the slide likely was technically legal given that Hoskins went straight into the bag and never lost contact with the bag. However, you can see why McNeil was upset, given that the slide did appear a little late and that Hoskins' spikes went right into McNeil's leg. It could have been an ugly injury but luckily it ended up being nothing more than a fielders choice.
We will see if there's any retaliation in Game 2 of the series on Saturday - or later this season.
The Brewers won the game, 3-1.
