Eloy Jimenez's Injury Status Ahead of White Sox-Braves Game
Chicago White Sox' designated hitter Eloy Jimenez won't start on Monday afternoon when the Sox take on the Atlanta Braves.
Jimenez is battling an adductor issue after being removed early from Sunday's loss to the Detroit Tigers.
In his place, Gavin Sheets will start at designated hitter, with Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert and Dom Fletcher in the outfield.
This is a tough break for the White Sox given that they are already 0-3 on the season. Taking Jimenez out of the lineup before a matchup against one of the best teams in baseball makes it a further likelihood that the team falls to 0-4.
Unfortunately, injuries are nothing new to Jimenez. He played 122 games during his debut 2019 season and played 55 out of 60 games in the COVID 2020 season, but since then, he hasn't appeared in more than 120 games in any season. He played in less than 100 games in both 2021 and 2022.
When he does play, he's one of the more productive players still left on the White Sox roster. He's a .274 hitter with 89 homers and 275 RBI. He hit a career-high 31 homers back in 2019.
This is a big year for Jimenez for multiple reasons. If he plays well, the White Sox could exercise their club option on him, and if he doesn't play well, he could find himself in the free agent pool next winter.
The White Sox and Braves will play on Monday at 2:10 p.m. ET. Chris Flexen makes his first start for the Southsiders.
