Atlanta Braves En Route to Baseball History with Home Run Distances
On Wednesday, we told you that Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves is making baseball history with his home run prowess.
It turns out, on an extension of that, the entire Braves team is making history because of its home run prowess. Or at least, the Braves are headed for baseball history on that front.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
the Braves have hit 14 450+ ft homers this year
NO OTHER TEAM HAS MORE THAN 6 (Rockies/Angels)
most 450+ ft HR by a team in a single season under Statcast (2015) is 19, by the 2021 Rockies
most, non-COL team: 15, by the 2017 Marlins + Yankees, each
I mean, the Braves aren't just on pace to break the record, they are on pace to obliterate the record. With Acuna, Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley on the roster, it seems like that they'll do it by the All-Star break.
What a season it's been in Atlanta for the Braves, who lead the National League East by five games over the Miami Marlins at 43-26. This is all despite a rash of injuries this year that have decimated the pitching staff (Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Ian Anderson, Raisel Iglesias, Colin McHugh) and a high number of injuries on the position player front (Travis d'Arnaud, Michael Harris, Orlando Arcia).
The Braves will take on the Colorado Rockies again on Friday night at Truist Park. Jared Shuster will pitch (3-2, 5.05 ERA) while Dinelson Lamet (1-3, 10.38) goes for Colorado.
First pitch is 7:20 p.m. ET.
