Atlanta Braves Do Something They've Never Done on Monday Night in Loss vs. New York Mets
The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets on Monday night by a score of 10-4.
Despite the loss, the Braves still have the best record in baseball at 80-44. The win moved the Mets to a disappointing 59-67.
Though the Braves fell, they did make some franchise history in the home run department - something they've done quite a bit of this year.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Marcell Ozuna is the 5th different Braves player with at least 25 HR this season (Acuña Jr., Albies, Olson, Riley), the most different 25-HR hitters in a single season in franchise history.
They join the 2019 Twins as the only teams in MLB history with five 25-HR hitters before the end of August.
With this kind of power, the Braves are on the short-list of World Series favorites. They figure to be at the top of the NL pennant odds, alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves last won the World Series in 2021.
Ozuna went 2-for-4 in the loss with the home run. He's now hitting .251 this season with the 25 home runs and 62 RBI.
The 32-year-old is in his 11th season in the big leagues with the Marlins, Cardinals and Braves. He's a lifetime .267 hitter with 222 home runs and 738 RBI.
The Braves will take on the Mets again on Tuesday night. First pitch from Truist Park is set for 7:20 p.m. ET.
Tylor Megill (NYM) pitches against Braves rookie Bryce Elder.
Megill is 7-6 with a 5.53 ERA while Elder is 9-4 with a 3.46 ERA.
