Atlanta Braves' Matt Olson - and Team - Closing in on History in Month of June
The Atlanta Braves beat the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday by a score of 3-0. The win completed a three-game sweep for the Braves, who moved to a National League best 53-27. The loss dropped the Twins to 40-42 on the year and dropped them into a tie in the American League Central at the time of this posting.
In the victory, Matt Olson hit a solo homer which gave him 26 for the season. Both he - and his teammates - are closing in some elite team history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Matt Olson's 26 home runs this season are the most by a Braves player before July since Andrés Galarraga (27) in 1998.
The homer marked the Braves' 55th HR in June -- one shy of their most HR in a single month in franchise history (56 in June 2019).
The Braves certainly possess a ton of power between Olson, Ronald Acuna Jr., Marcell Ozuna, Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley, which helps make them one of the biggest World Series favorites. With one more game left in June, it's entirely possible that both those records get tied or fall.
Olson is now hitting .237 this year. Along with the 26 homers, he's got 62 RBI and an OPS of .888. He was traded to the Braves before the 2022 season in a deal with the Oakland Athletics.
The Braves close out June by beginning a huge series with the Miami Marlins on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET. Miami is 46-34 and in second place in the National League East.
