At this point, the only thing that can stop Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves from winning the National League MVP is injury.

The electrifying leadoff hitter is the catalyst for the best team in the National League and is a major reason why the Braves are a World Series favorite.

At the time of this posting, the Braves lead the Cleveland Guardians, 4-2, in the eighth inning. Acuna is 1-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, giving him 40 on the season.

That 40th stolen base meant that yet again, Acuna Jr. has made baseball history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Ronald Acuña Jr. has 21 home runs and 40 stolen bases in 84 games this season. That is the fewest games played in MLB history to reach 20 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a season.

Acuna is on a track to contend for a 40/70 season, which showcases the kind of unique talent that he is. Still just 25 years old, he's one of the best players in the sport and was just recently named to the National League All-Star team.

In addition to the 21 homers and 40 steals, he has 54 RBI this season and an OPS of 1.012.

If the Braves are to win this game, they'll move to 57-27 on the season. A loss would drop them to 56-28.

The Guardians entered play at 41-42 and can get back to .500 with a comeback win.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
