Atlanta Braves Set Multiple Home Run Records on Sunday vs. Milwaukee Brewers
The Atlanta Braves set multiple baseball records on Sunday afternoon in the early going against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Austin Riley hit a two-run shot which set the records:
First, per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
463 FEET!
the Braves have hit now 20 450+ ft homers this year
NO OTHER TEAM HAS MORE THAN 10 (Rockies)
that’s the most 450+ ft HR by a team in a single season under Statcast (2015), breaking a tie at 19 with the 2021 Rockies
Not only do the Braves have the most players in baseball with at least 20 homers, they also hit them further than everyone else.
As for the other record: Also per Langs:
most first-inning HR before August:
2023 Braves: 32
2019 Reds: 31
2018 Rockies: 30
2000 Cardinals: 30
entire-season record for 1st-inning HR: 46 by 2019 Reds
The Braves just own the first inning, and it's help them put together the rest record in baseball at this point of the season. It's a lot easier for the pitching staff when you're constantly pitching with an early lead, isn't it?
With Riley, Matt Olson, Marcell Ozuna, Orlando Arcia and probable National League MVP Ronald Acuna, the Braves are the prohibitive favorite to come out of the National League and get to the World Series.
Atlanta entered play at 66-36 and with an 11.0 game lead in the National League East. That's the biggest lead of any division No. 1 over a division No. 2 (Philadelphia). And with injured pitchers Max Fried and Kyle Wright on the mend, they should get even better, which is scary for the rest of the league.
