Atlanta Braves Slugger Does Something The Franchise Hasn't Seen in More Than 60 Years
The Atlanta Braves beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-4 on Friday night. Once again, the Braves used the long ball in the victory, getting home runs from Orlando Arcia and slugger Austin Riley.
Riley's homer was his 21st of the season and continues this incredible hot streak that he's been on - a hot streak that's making franchise history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Last night, Austin Riley became the first Braves player with at least 5 HR & 13 RBI in a 4-game span since Eddie Mathews when he did it for the Milwaukee Braves in 1959.
When you're in company with one of the best players in organizational history, then you're doing something right.
After the hot streak, Riley is now up to a .270 batting average with the 21 homers and 58 RBI. Lifetime, he's a .272 hitter with 118 homers.
The 26-year-old is part of a vaunted Braves lineup that includes Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, Arcia, Ozzie Albies, and Sean Murphy. It's that lineup - and the accompanying power - that has the Braves as one of the few favorites to win the World Series this year.
After beating Milwaukee, the Braves are now an MLB-best 63-33. They lead the National League East by 11.5 games, which is is the biggest separation between 1-2 of any division in baseball.
They'll play the Brewers again on Saturday night at 7:15 p.m. ET as Allan Winans makes his major league debut (ATL) against veteran Adrian Houser for the Brewers.
Milwaukee is 54-44 on the season.
