Atlanta Braves Stud Pitcher on Pace to Make Baseball History This Year

Fresh off a 12-strikeout performance against the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night, Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider is in a position to do something that no pitcher in MLB history has ever done.

Last night, Atlanta Braves ace pitcher Spencer Strider continued a historic streak in a dominant performance against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Despite taking the loss, Strider struck out 12 batters over six innings. You can read about the individual game history that he made here.

But in addition to individual game histories, Strider is on pace to make history that has never been accomplished over a full season, as well.

From the Twitter account @StatMuse:

Highest K/9 by starters this season:

15.2 — Spencer Strider

13.4 — Jacob deGrom

12.9 — Shohei Ohtani

No SP has ever recorded a 15+ K/9 over a full season. Can Strider do it?

To be able to keep up that pace certainly seems implausible, but given how good Strider has been dating back to last year, maybe it isn't.

His ability to dominate every fifth day is a huge relief to a Braves team that is going to be missing both Kyle Wright and Max Fried from the rotation for an extended period of time.

Strider is just a strikeout machine. He currently has 79 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. Those 79 strikeouts lead all of baseball right now. They are 12 more than second place (Kevin Gausman) and 13 more than Ohtani. deGrom is currently on the injured list.

The Columbus, Ohio native is currently 4-1 with a 2.51 ERA. For his career, he's 16-6 with a 2.64. He went 11-5 a season ago with a 2.67 ERA and helped the Braves in the National League East.

Atlanta is 25-13 on the season.
