Baltimore Orioles Do Something They've Never Done in Dramatic Win Over New York Yankees on Friday
The Baltimore Orioles got a walk-off home run from Anthony Santander on Friday night to beat the New York Yankees, 1-0.
It was a great win for the first-place Orioles, who continue to be one of the best stories in all of baseball.
While the walk-off home run will get much deserved attention, we point you to the pitchers mound, where the O's did something they've never done before.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
Félix Bautista had a 101.7 mph strikeout in the 9th Friday
Grayson Rodriguez had a 100.2 mph K in the 1st and a 100.1 mph K in the
2nd this was the first time the Orioles got at least 1 100.0+ mph strikeout from MULTIPLE pitchers in same game in the pitch-tracking era (2008)
Sure, that's only 15 years of data collection but it's not often that you even have two guys that can throw 100+ on a staff, so it's still impressive.
Rodriguez delivered the best start of his young career, tossing 6.1 shutout innings in the no-decision. He allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out four.
Bautista moved to 6-1 out of the bullpen. He has a minuscule ERA of 0.90.
The Orioles are 63-40 which is the best record in the American League. They lead the American League East by 1.5 games.
The two teams will play again on Saturday night at Camden Yards.
First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. ET as Clarke Schmidt (NYY) pitches against Tyler Wells.
Schmidt is 6-6 with a 4.33 ERA while Wells is 7-5 with a 3.65.
