Boston Red Sox' Rafael Devers on Pace to Break Record in Team History
Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers hit his 18th home run of the season on Friday night as the Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox, 3-1.
Devers now has 60 RBI on the year, which is tied for the league-lead with Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers.
The popular Boston Twitter account @Bostonsportsinf tweeted out that Devers is also on pace to break a record and make some cool team history by season's end:
Rafael Devers Most XBH as a Red Sox ≤ 26 YO
1. Mookie Betts - 394
2. Jim Rice - 370
3. Rafael Devers - 368*
* - active Barring injury Raffy should be the all-time leader by the end of the season
That would be an incredible accomplishment and to see Devers ahead of names like Ted Williams, Tris Speaker and Xander Bogaerts speaks to how good a young hitter he is.
He's a lifetime .278 hitter with 157 homers and 515 RBI. His average is down this year (.239) but his power is still elite. He needs 27 more extra-base hits to set the record, and like the account says, barring injury, he should get it.
The Red Sox are now 40-37 but reside in last place in the American League East. They are in the thick of the conversation for the American League Wild Card race and are just 1.5 games back of the final spot.
The Red Sox will take on the White Sox again on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. ET. James Paxton (3-1, 3.29 ERA) pitches for Boston while Lance Lynn (4-8, 6.51 ERA) pitches for Chicago.
