Boston Red Sox' Trevor Story Joins Illustrious Company in Team Record Books on Sunday
The Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers on Sunday by a score of 6-3.
The win moved the Red Sox to 62-56 and means they won their second series of the week after taking 3-of-4 from the Royals earlier.
The story of this game was Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story, who delivered his best performance since making his season debut earlier this week. Story went 4-for-4 with three doubles in the win. He also stole two bases, joining some illustrious company in team history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Trevor Story becomes the 3rd player in Red Sox franchise history to record at least 3 extra-base hits and 2 stolen bases in a game.
He joins John Valentin (June 13, 1995 at Blue Jays) and Dom DiMaggio (April 20, 1941 at Washington Senators).
Story was signed to a six-year deal before the 2022 season but missed all of this season (until this week) after undergoing an elbow procedure this offseason.
Story is a career .268 hitter with 174 home runs and 516 RBI. He played for the Colorado Rockies prior to signing in Boston.
In addition to Story's performance, Garrett Whitlock also returned from the injured list and got the win in relief. He tossed 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit.
The Red Sox will be off on Monday before starting a road series with the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. The Nationals are tied for last place in the National League East but they did get a walk-off win against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
