Boston Red Sox Star Continues to Move Up Prestigious List in Team Record Books
The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, 8-3, to move to 49-43 on the season. The Sox have now won nine of their last 10 games as they continue to gain relevance in the American League playoff race.
The Sox are looking for their first playoff berth since 2021.
The Red Sox power fueled the victory as they hit six home runs in the win, including two by star third baseman Rafael Devers.
With the pair of homers, Devers continues to climb a prestigious list in team history.
Per @SoxNotes on Twitter:
That was Rafael Devers’ 161st home run, passing Tony Conigliaro for 2nd most in Red Sox history at the age of 26 or younger.
1. Jim Rice 172
2. Rafael Devers 161
3. Tony Conigliaro 160
Any time you are creeping up on Hall of Famers in history, you're doing something right, and Devers definitely is.
His overall average is a little lower than he'd like (.259) but his power output has still been there. He's got 22 homers this season to go along with 72 RBIs.
For his career, he has the 161 homers with 527 RBI. He's a lifetime .280 hitter. Again, while the overall average is lower, he's been hot lately, hitting .364 over his last 15 games and .295 over his last 30.
The Red Sox and Cubs will play each other again on Saturday afternoon. First pitch in that game will be 2:20 p.m. ET.
