Los Angeles Dodgers Stars Each Move Up the All-Time Record Books in Saturday Shutout Win
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Francisco Giants 7-0 on Saturday night.
The win moved the Dodgers to 95-59 on the year as they've won seven of 10 games. The loss continued the second-half swoon for the Giants, who are now under .500 at 77-78. They are 4.0 games back of the wild card in the National League.
The win was fueled by Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez at the plate, and Clayton Kershaw on the mound.
Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI while Betts went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Kershaw threw 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing no runs on two hits. He struck out five and moved to 13-4 on the year with a 2.42 ERA.
Both Kershaw and Betts also made unique moves up the baseball record books.
Per Dodger Insider on social media:
Clayton Kershaw now stands alone in second place in Dodger franchise history with 210 wins.
He's 210-91 in his career with a 2.48 ERA. One of the most accomplished pitchers of his generation, he's a three-time Cy Young winner and a former MVP.
Betts also made history with his performance moving to the top of this list in baseball history.
Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:
most RBI out of leadoff spot in a season (RBI official since 1920):
2023 Mookie Betts: 105
2017 Charlie Blackmon: 103
2023 Ronald Acuña Jr.: 101
2000 Darin Erstad: 100
It's appropriate that both Betts and Acuna Jr. are on this list as both players will be battling for the National League MVP award.
Betts is hitting .309 with 39 home runs, 105 RBI and 13 stolen bases this year.
