The Chicago Cubs lost to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night by a score of 7-2 but that didn't stop Cubs catcher Yan Gomes from making some team history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Yan Gomes became the oldest Cubs player with multiple triples in a game since Jack McCarthy in 1905.

Gomes is 36 years and 1 day old. McCarthy was 36 years and 19 days old.

That's a pretty good accomplishment for the veteran backstop, even in a loss.

The 36-year-old was a 10th round draft pick in 2009 and has carved out a productive big league career that is in its 12th season. He's spent time with the Blue Jays, Guardians, Nationals, A's and Cubs. He helped the Cleveland franchise get to the World Series in 2016 and won the World Series with Washington in 2019.

He's hitting .270 this year across 200 at-bats with eight homers and 33 RBI. Lifetime, he's a .247 hitter who has popped 133 home runs.

After the loss, the Cubs are now 45-51 this season. They are in third place in the National League Central and are 8.5 back of the first-place Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs are seen as a team that could sell at the trade deadline, possibly trading off the likes of pitcher Marcus Stroman and outfielder Cody Bellinger.

They'll be back in action on Friday afternoon for a day game at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET as Jack Flaherty (STL) pitches against Justin Steele (CHC).
