Chicago Cubs Outfielder On Pace to Do Something That Hasn't Been Done in Nearly 100 Years of Franchise History
The Chicago Cubs beat the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon by a score of 10-4. The win was fueled by Cody Bellinger, who had another big day at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. He also connected on a grand slam, which was his 12th homer of the year.
The big day continues a big month for Bellinger, who has had a career resurgence in Chicago. In fact, he's on pace to do something that hasn't been done in nearly 100 years of team history.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Cody Bellinger is hitting .476 as we near the halfway point in July. That would be the highest BA by a Cubs player in a calendar month in nearly 100 years.
Sure, the month of July is truncated because of the All-Star break, but it shouldn't diminish the run that Bellinger is on. He's hitting .305 this season with the 12 homers, 35 RBI and 11 steals.
Lifetime, he's a .253 hitter with 164 homers and 457 RBI. He spent the previous six years with the Los Angeles Dodgers before signing with the Cubs this offseason.
The 28-year-old won the MVP Award in the National League back in 2019.
After the win, the Cubs are 43-48 on the season. They are 6.5 games back in the National League Central at the time of this posting.
The Red Sox fell to 49-44 in the loss. That loss moved them to 9.5 games back in the American League East and 2.5 games back in the wild card race.
